Like any other game, baseball too has a lot of abbreviations which need to be understood if you really wanna enjoy the real essence of it. Many a times commentators use these terms to express different situations.

We have taken a mission of educating all of you, and that’s why we have started this series where previously we have explained terms like RISP, LOB, MVR, PO etc. But do you know what does bp mean in baseball? That’s what I will explain now.

BP means Batting Practice in baseball. Each team is allotted practice time to work on their batting and swing techniques on live pitches. It helps warm up the players just before the start of the main match.

Before each game, the team not only practices batting but also hits. The practice may happen either on the field or in a cage.

In a professional match, whenever a team hits well against any pitcher or team, they will relate it to batting practice, because seeing and hitting the ball gets easy for them.

BP simply means batting practice. It’s as easy as that. In fact, every team is allowed to practice on live pitches before a game in order to improve their batting and swing techniques. Players also love to do batting practice before a game as it works as a warm up session as well.

A baseball player should do more than 20 hours of batting practice (BP) each week in order to improve their skills.

There are a few tips with which you can practice baseball batting by yourself as follows:

Take your ideal batting posture by bending your knees slightly and underneath your shoulders. Swing the bat in the air visualizing that you are hitting the ball.

It will help to reinforce your arms and infuse muscle memory, ultimately improving your strategy and power. Repeat this at least 150 times a day.

Not necessary to do 150 counts continuously. You can break it into 10 to 15 repetitions.

Use a heavier bat than your usual bat that you use for real games. It will help you to enhance your swinging power. Practice as described in the above paragraph using the heavier bat. Repeat 2 sets of swinging practice with your usual bat.

In the end, repeat the practice of swinging only once with a lighter bat. It helps in enhancing your technique and speed. Initially start with slow pitch speed so you can make good contact with the ball. Once you improve your eye-hand coordination you can practice by incrementing pitching speeds.

At one point, you will be able to hit high-speed balls. Then you can practice swinging and hitting the ball in different but specific directions.

Pitching machines can be found in batting cages or where team practice takes place.

Practice in a batting cage for a minimum of 60 minutes or more. After every 20 minutes take a break of 3-5 minutes. Here are a few tips to learn to bat if you are a beginner.

Make sure you have a strong grip on the bat from the start, holding it more in your fingers than further back in your hands. Additionally, make an effort to align your door-knocking knuckles, which will improve your ability to control the bat and your swing.

Keep everything minimal and straightforward. Standing in the middle of the batter’s box with both feet parallel and shoulder width apart is the proper position.

Hold the bat vertically and slightly inclined over the rear shoulder with a slight bend in the knees. The head ought to face the pitcher at all times. You should feel the most at ease when standing up there if you adhere to those fundamentals.
